Banks wants you to have More Debt!

I hope that people have learned from the last year or so that banks are definitely Evil.  Not only do they want to suck us dry whenever they can, but they were almost single handedly responsible for the world wide recession we find ourselves in.  The consumers shouldn’t have asked for credit when they weren’t credit worthy obviously, but the banks should’ve helped the ignorant.

Now that things seem to be becoming a bit more stable, they’re at it again.  I get a letter from ABSA yesterday telling me that if I want to extend my house bond loan with them I must just give them a call.  I can borrow a certain amount and they can just add it to my current home loan.  Sure I can do it, but it will obviously increase the monthly payment I make or increase the number of months I’ll be paying off on it.  It pisses me off that other people are going to use this recklessly again and end up in deeper shit than they were before.

I ignored the letter and was just wondering how many people are going to take them up on that offer.  They’ll get more money from them, increase their house bonds, and 3-5 months down the line struggle to pay back the additional amount on their monthly payment.  Sounds familiar?

Then this morning someone from ABSA phones me offering me the same thing.  Not only are they trying to lure in people to have more debt, they are quite persistent at it as well.

Be warned, the bank has never and will never be your friend.  There is always an agenda!

Banks aren’t always wrong

I had to go to the bank today, and while standing there I came to a realization. We have these preconceived ideas about how terrible banks are, that by the time we go into a bank, we have so much negative thoughts about how long we’re going to be there, how terrible service we’re going to get, and how banks are there just to steal our money, that inevitably something goes wrong to piss us off. Or we just make the whole experience terrible for ourselves.

As I stood there waiting in the teller line, I witnessed at least 3 people be very rude to the tellers from the first words that came out their mouths. So before the tellers had any chance to do anything wrong, besides being a bank employee, these people were already having a go at them. And it wasn’t that they waited long in the queue either, I think a maximum of 2 minutes if it was even that long.

I don’t judge those people though, I just took note, because as I saw it happening, I thought to myself that I am like that sometimes as well. I work myself up so much having to go to a bank, that by the time I get there I just want to kill someone. It doesn’t matter if they’ve done anything wrong.

Now imagine being an employee that has to put up with kak like that each day? No wonder we get bad service every now and then, I’ll get pretty fed up with people just ranting on me for no reason.

So here’s a salute to all the bank employees, or at least those ones that know what they’re doing ;)
