Why choose Ninjitsu?

A couple of years ago I did Kungfu and stopped it for (thinking back now) stupid reasons. I could feel a part of me has been restless ever since, and during the last couple of months in 2008 I started thinking about starting up again more and more.

Then on Facebook, I saw an add for Ninja training. It directed me to http://www.ninja.co.za/ and there I came across there distance learning program. Knowing I would not be able to train by myself, I asked my wife is she would be willing to join me to start Ninjitsu training. She seemed quite eager, and thus I ordered the first level training for Ninjitsu.

The training program comes in the form a of DVD that is presented by Sensei David Field (3rd Dan Black Belt). The style that is being taught is Koga Ryu Ninjitsu. There are various stories about how it came into existence all over the Internet, and I will soon try to combine all of these into a post. What Sensei David is doing, is presenting this ancient art, but with a modern twist. The first DVD teaches you 9th Kyu and should take you 3 months to complete. Thereafter you are graded by sending in a video of your progress and if you are deemed competent you can move on to the next level.

I’ve always found the story behind Ninjas and Ninjitsu very facinating, and I remember a number of years ago it was quite a taboo subject. I suppose this is one of the reasons that I chose to start with this.

Let’s see how it goes….
