Wishing your life away

I recently watched the movie Click! by Adam Sandler again. I remember when we went to watch it the first time, we went in there expecting a good comedy by Adam. It started out as a good comedy, and thinking that having a remote like that would be cool.

For those that haven’t watched it, it comes down to Adam’s character making work more important than his family, and then he finds this remote. This special remote allows him to forward past events in his life to get onto the “good stuff”. Little does he know what he is missing out on.

At the end it’s quite sad, but has a very good lesson to be learned. I think at least everyone has wished for a day to come to an end, a certain date to arrive quicker, or even worse, just all your school years to fly by quickly. I for one have wished on all 3 of those.

Do we realise though that we are wishing away our lives? I find myself some days just wishing that Friday would get here quicker. You get so enthralled in that wish that the time just flies past so quickly that another week in your life is gone before you realise it. Even if you just wish for the day to end, you’re wishing away 8 hours of your life, which might not be a lot if you think about it, but what if you’ve wished away 365 days at 8 hours each? Will you realise too late?

I’ve adopted a a mantra of “it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey” when we go on out on our 4×4 journeys. Stop, enjoy the scenery, take it slow, don’t worry about getting to the end! I think that adopting that for your (and my) life couldn’t hurt :)

We have one life, live it!
