Camping up a storm
What do you do when you see bad weather approaching? Go camp of course!
That is exactly what we did this past weekend. Well, we didn’t really just go and camp because of the storm approaching, we’d actually been planning it for a couple of weeks. It just happened to coincide with a fun storm ahead
We left for Oysterbay on Friday afternoon, and arrived at a campsite we haven’t been at before. We didn’t really know what to expect, and when we got there to see it has a 5 star rating it just looked at each other wondering what to expect. Well, it wasn’t what I expected at all. From what I saw on photos, I thought we’d be camping right on the edge of the beach, but instead we were in the middle of a little town.
The place is very well kept and surprise surprise, we were the only ones foolish enough to be camping in this weather.
We quickly got everything setup, and as we put in the last tent pen, it started raining. The fire was up and running quickly after that, and we sat around having a nice relaxing time.
It was weird camping in a place that is surrounded by houses, but we had a very nice time. The first evening was quite cold and windy, or so we thought.
Saturday was spent at Brakkenduine 4×4 Sand Dune trail just around the corner. We were a small group, and could spend a bit more time at each dune playing around a bit. The wind was quite bad on the dunes, and the sand was beating down on us. Especially when we had to do a tyre change in the middle of it all.
After the fun at the dunes, we headed back to Oysterbay and just chilled.
After braaing the evening we went to bed with the wind beating down on the tents and gazebo with quite a force. Half way through the evening we had to get up to put down the half broken gazebo, and didn’t get much sleep the rest of the night. Perhaps it was because we were in a tent, but the wind was quite bad that night.
On Sunday morning we packed up quickly and headed back to PE.
